A PILOT programme to attract overseas buyers to next week’s event has been initiated by Mullingar International and supported by Horse Sport Ireland.

The aim of the programme is to encourage trade for the Irish producer by inviting overseas buyers to review the current stock of 4 years olds and monitor the progress of this year’s 5, 6 and 7 year old show jumpers.

German buyer and trainer of the German Junior and Young Rider teams, Dietmar Gugler, has confirmed his attendance at the show as have Carl Hanley, Ciaran Howley and Enda Carroll. Polish buyer Jan Chrzanowski will represent Swiss based Niall Talbot.

Professor Pat Wall, Chairman of Horse Sport Ireland welcomed this innovative programme, “Some of our best young show jumping horses will be competing in Mullingar and this provides a great opportunity to showcase these performers to potential customers. To have visitors witnessing a large number of our best horses in action will demonstrate that we have a vibrant industry and have plenty of quality animals that can hold their own with those from other EU member states.

“All efforts to attract top buyers to Ireland have to be encouraged if we are to position Ireland as a centre for sourcing quality animals and also if we are to understand what type of animal these buyers are seeking.”

Show Director Robert Fagan has commended the programme. “This is an excellent initiative by Horse Sport Ireland and Pat McCartan, and hopefully will deliver benefits for the Irish breeder and producer, ” he said.

Mullingar International Show will host a leg of the Irish Sport Horse Studbook series for 5, 6and 7 year old horses.
