Over 40 Irish-bred horses entered for Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials CCI4*
The 2018 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials takes place from Wednesday 2nd to Sunday 6th May.
42 Irish-bred horses, representing six nations, feature on this year’s accepted entries including 2014 winning combination Sam Griffiths (AUS) and Irish Sport Horse Paulank Brockagh. Since their 2014 victory the pair have notably won a Team Bronze medal, and placed fourth individually, at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.

Paulank Brockagh is one of five Irish-bred mares bound for Badminton that include China Doll (James O’Haire), My Royal Touch (Lydia Hannon), November Night (Ciaran Glynn) and Vanir Kamira (Piggy French).
A total of ten riders represent Team Ireland Equestrian at the Gloucestershire event with 80% of those mounted on Irish Sport Horses; Clare Abbott (Euro Prince), Aoife Clark (Master Rory), Jonty Evans (Cooley Rorkes Drift), Ciaran Glynn (Killossery Jupiter Rising & November Night), Josephy Murphy (Sportsfield Othello), James O’Haire (China Doll), Michael Ryan (Dunlough Striker) & Patricia Ryan (Dunrath Eclipse).

Six traditionally-bred Irish Sport Horses feature on this year’s entries; Away Cruising (Harry Meade), Chakiris Star (Alexander Whewall), Killossery Jupiter Rising (Ciaran Glynn), November Night (Ciaran Glynn), Spring Panorama (Andrew Daines) and Strike Smartly (Tom McEwen).
Two top-ten Irish-bred finishers from 2017 are making a return this year. Gemma Tattersall (GBR) and Irish-bred Arctic Soul took 7th place at last year’s event and have since gone on to win Gatcombe Park CIC3* and finish 3rd in Burghley CCI4*. Japan’s Yoshiaki Oiwa rode Irish Sport Horse The Duke Of Cavan to an 8th place finish in 2017, at what was the gelding’s first CCI4*. In 2018 the pair have already won Barroca d’Alva CIC3* and most recently placed 3rd Strzegom CIC3*.
