Ireland’s Kevin Babington rode to victory in the $33,500 Friends of the Meadows Cup 1.45m Derby on-board the Irish Sport Horse Goodwins Loyalty.
This was the first international win for the Kilkenny born mare while paired with Kevin Babington. Goodwins Loyalty was previously campaigned by Shane Breen and David Simpson, the latter of which rode her in 2012 Hickstead Derby.
Breeder Larry Costello, a Registered Sellers with the Irish Horse Gateway, was delighted with the win adding ”
It is great to breed a winner but to breed a winner of a Derby is unreal. I would like to congratulate Kevin on his great win with the mare. Her dam Goodwins Belle has bred two Grand Prix showjumpers Goodwins Loyalty , Goodwins 007 , Goodwins Quality who is a 7 year old jumping 1m30 at the moment and Goodwins Reef who is a four star eventer”
The success of the Costello families breeding programme can be seen in various countries around the world. Goodwins Reef competed at Luhmuhlen CCI4* this June under Belgium’s Constantin Van Rijckevorsel having previously competed with Bill Levett (AUS). the beautiful Glory Days was previously competed at Nations Cup level by Sweden’s Daniel Zetterman and can now be seen under USA’s Katie Dinan. The dam of Glory Days, Diamond Glory, was bred at the Costello’s Kilkenny base – Goodwins Gardens.
We wish the Goodwin family continued success with your breeding programme. Goodwins Stables Irish Horse Gateway profile is available here.
