It was a pleasure to watch the wonderful performances of Irish Bred horses competing at what is one of the worlds most prestigous events, the Kentucky Rolex CCI4* of which 3 Irish Sport horses made the top 10 rankings after the Dressage.
The work and schooling that goes in to creating the gymnastic movements showcases the suppleness, balance, lightness and trainability of the Irish Horse as well as their potential as Dressage horses. Irish Horses have often been overlooked as dressage contenders however with the correct schooling and training the Irish horse holds its own when it comes to this very popular discipline.
In second place is Britain’s William Fox-Pitt on Bay My Hero, by Cult Hero, and bred by Bryan Maguire, while in equal fourth is Mr. Medicott, by Cruising and bred by Dr. D. Geaney and ridden by the USA’s Phillip Dutton.
Seventh place is held by Pawlow, by Marcuzzi, bred by Ernst Pawlowski and ridden by the USA’s Will Faudree.
Representing Ireland at Kentucky is Tim Bourke and the nine year-old Irish Sport Horse Luckaun Quality, by OBOS Quality. Their current position is 53rd place on their debut at four-star level.
It is fascinating to note that twenty-two per cent of the entries for CCI4* Rolex Kentucky this year are Irish Sport Horses. Registered seller on the Irish Horse Gateway, Carol Gee of Fernhill Sport Horses is flying the flag high for Irish bred horses with an astonishing three Fernhill horses competing at Kentucky, Fernhill Present, Flutter and Fearless”. Ireland it seems is not just Land of the Horse but the true home of the Eventer.
