Barney is an outstanding 4-year-old purebred Connemara gelding, standing at 15.1hh with a little more growing still to come. He is, without question, a one-of-a-kind pony—an absolutely smashing horse you won’t come across again. With his traditional build, and a leg in each corner, Barney represents the very best of the Connemara breed. His striking golden dun colouring and kind, intelligent eye make him a real head-turner in any company.
This is a pony that not only looks the part but delivers on talent and temperament too. He is a fabulous mover, with three naturally elevated and rhythmical paces, and a lovely, balanced canter that’s both comfortable and powerful. His jump is nothing short of phenomenal—he is currently confidently schooling up to 1.10m with ease and has plenty of scope left in the tank. He shows a natural technique and a brave, willing attitude to his fences, always looking to please and never rushing or pulling. Barney is honest, straight-forward, and rides beautifully into an outline with a soft snaffle mouth.
He would suit a variety of riders, from a competent novice or ambitious teenager, to someone looking for a competitive mount to bring through the levels. He’s the kind of horse that could equally be a mother-daughter share, thanks to his calm temperament, manners, and reliability. Barney is never silly or sharp, and he gives a very secure and enjoyable ride, both at home and in new environments.
Out hacking, he is a pleasure to take out. He is happy to go alone or in company, and he’s excellent in all types of traffic. He is also very easy to handle on the ground—kind, polite, and respectful. He’s good to catch, box, load, and shoe, and he has absolutely no stable vices. Barney is simply a lovely, well-mannered horse who enjoys human company and takes everything in his stride.
Barney is also exceptionally well bred. His sire is Woodhaven Joker, and his dam is by Ardgaineen Rebel out of a Maam Hero mare—bloodlines known for producing quality, soundness, and performance. With his conformation, paces, and jump, he has all the attributes to make a serious competition horse or a once-in-a-lifetime allrounder.
He is open to any vetting, and we are confident he will impress. Barney has the temperament, quality, and potential to go far in any discipline, and above all, he is a joy to have around.
