A new website for buyers who wish to purchase an Irish horse or pony was introduced today at the Rolex Three Day event in Kentucky by Horse Sport Ireland.
The site ‘Irish Horse Gateway’ is aimed at the export market and links prospective buyers of Irish horses and ponies to participating sellers in Ireland.
The beta version of the site, can be viewed at the Horse Sport Ireland pavilion which is at stand 7 in the sponsors village or by visiting www.irishhorsegateway.ie.
Following a public advertisement a number of prominent sellers in Ireland have been assisting Horse Sport Ireland with the development of the site. These sellers have placed an initial 30+ adverts on the site as part of the trial.
Horse Sport Ireland regularly receives requests from prospective buyers abroad about purchasing an Irish horse or pony. In such circumstances it has directed buyers towards public auctions in Ireland such as those at Goresbridge and Cavan, which do an excellent job. However, it does not suit some purchasers to buy at an auction.
The new site has a number of features in that participating sellers must sign a Code of Conduct before they put their horses for sale on the site and all horses must have recorded pedigree.
The site will be demonstrated to prospective sellers at the Horse Sport Ireland/Teagasc Digital Marketing Conference in Mullingar on Monday next, April 29th. To book places on this conference email Antonette Doran at firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 045-854508.
