Irish Horse Gateway supporting the Irish Pony Society Championship

General August 11, 2016

The Irish Pony Society Championship show will be held in Punchestown, Co. Kildare on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th of August 2016.

The Irish Horse Gateway are proudly sponsoring the Open 133 Working Hunter, Open 143 Working Hunter, Open 153 Working Hunter and the Overall Working Hunter Championships to be held on Sunday.

The Irish Horse Gateway aims to be the first point of contact for overseas visitors seeking to source horses and ponies in Ireland. The Irish pony is a much sought after commodity and the Irish Horse Gateway team are seeing plenty of interest from national and international sources. It is hoped that this sponsorship will attract producers of Irish ponies to use the Irish Horse Gateway platform for showcasing these animals to both a national and international audience.

According to the Irish Pony society “The working hunter pony should be a show hunter pony that can jump. A working hunter combination of pony and rider should be going forward in a well-balanced rhythmical canter, meeting each fence without breaking strides. Ponies should prick their ears and be seen to attack their fence.”

The working hunter class is a performance class broken into two phases. In the first phase each fence is marked out of 10 and a way of going mark out of 20, awarded at the end of the jumping. The second phase is broken into manners, performance, movement, conformation (all 10 marks each) and type (5 marks).

The team at Irish Horse Gateway would like to take this opportunity to wish the Irish Pony Society well with this event and good luck to all competitors.
