Superb amateur dressage/hack ISH gelding
Completely honest advert and this horse must go to a top class and loving home please.
Kovu – 8 year old gelding by Watermill Swatch (out of a Crosstown Dancer mare).
Bought as an unbroken 3 year old and after doing long-reining by his owner he was professionally broken.
Since then he’s always been handled by a girl handled on her own. He’s super to groom, load, wash, stand for farrier, etc.
Kovu did some showjumping up to 80/90cm level and did some cross-country but after noticing some stiffness after being out, he was diagnosed with mild ringbone in both hinds (x-rays done in Fethard veterinary clinic). Wanting to prolong his career (and it suited his owners nerves), they switched to dressage.
Kovu excels in the dressage ring and has lovely movement. He always places when out and as previously mentioned is very easy to handle on one’s own out at shows. Working at Prelim/novice dressage with good potential to move up.
Kovu is also a super hack, mostly walk/some trot to prevent any escalation of the ringbone. He’s very good to hack out on his own or in company if you are a confident rider. Kovu is not a beginner ride, he gets his confidence from his rider. He can nap when nervous of something and needs someone to be firm with him to keep him moving.
He would suit someone who wants to compete in dressage and who has the facilities to ride him on a surface to mind his legs. He has been x-rayed twice and his ringbone has not progressed due to careful management. He is never lame. Would prefer him not to be sold to a competitive jumping home as this will not suit his joints, though he’d be fine to pop around a few small fences.
Kovu is being sold with all his tack and rugs, including a custom saddle by Saoirse Saddlery worth €2k.
Kovu has a super temperament.
Owner is heartbroken to be selling him but no longer has the time to give him what he deserves. We know he’ll make the right person really happy.
Due to the ringbone he will not pass a full vetting with x-rays.

I am also a registered social worker. Emma is also BHS qualified and show jumping is her passion. Emma spent 3yrs training in 3 of Ireland’s top showjumping yards. She is great at producing young horses ready for the start of their careers. Emma has backed all of our home bred horses, from the age of 12.
