Gorsebridge Go For Gold Sale 2015

General July 16, 2015

Strong sterling and dollar rates, together with a glut of graduate successes have heightened enquiries ahead of November’s flagship Goresbridge Go For Gold sale of event horses.

Now heading into its sixth renewal, older graduates are on the verge of major championship appearances, while youngsters from the 2014 sale have already qualified for the major young horse championships.

We are already answering new enquiries, especially from America.” Martin Donohoe revealed. “We are launching an extensive marketing campaign, and the strong dollar and sterling rates will obviously further the appeal.”

The success of the sale undoubtedly hinges on the quality and international potential of the horses chosen. Last year’s clearance rate of 75% was testament to this, as was the sale of Ireland’s record priced three-year-old at €53,500. Contributing to an average price of €14,000, a further 27 lots realised in excess of €10,000, with seven of these topping the €25,000.

Since the first Select Sale in 2010, graduates have been making a big impression on the world stage. Although even the early graduates are barely reaching maturity, the American based Copper Beach (Buck Davidson) has already won a CCI*** in Jersey Fresh. He recently returned to Irish soil to produce a brilliant double clear round in the feature Irish Field CCI*** at Tattersalls, as did Cooley Rorkes Drift who, ridden by Jonty Evans has recently been selected for Ireland’s ‘Rio Squad’. The Australian ridden Prince Mayo also shone under Paul Tapner to fill fourth spot in the CIC***.

On the far side of the world Red Curran was selected to represent China at the Asian Games last year, while Cooley SRS was the highest placed Irish bred seven-year-old at the World Championships for young horses at Le Lion D’Angers.

From 2014, two young geldings have qualified for the prestigious Burghley Young Event Horse Championship, and also for the British young horse championships at Osberton.

This year’s Go For Gold Sale will take place on November 9th, 10th & 11th 2015. Applications can be made on line or by form
